Ice Storm

We had a two-day ice storm that left a coating of ice on everything. Further north the ice was much worse, but what the storm left here is still dangerous but beautiful. I was admiring the trees on my way home yesterday and the ice created sculptures of every tree.
I went out to feed the birds this morning and the shed was frozen shut. So good thing I still had some homemade suet. The birds seem grateful! Hopefully I can get into the shed later...
I did get to put on my snowshoes for the first time this season and they were great on the ice.
Have a great day!!

Crows and a Sunset

I was just looking at some photos I took during a walk through the cemetery. It was an extremely cold day and the sun was beginning to set. The light was suttle in some places but creating a glow that made a birch tree appear pink. The crows were flying in to roost for the night and talk about their day. They are amazing birds that only roost together in large numbers during the Winter. And appear to be so happy to see each other!

Take care!

Happy Winter Solstice!

The year of 2013 was filled with many wonderful memories and some sad. As usual, the year flew by and it will be 2014 soon. I have a lot of plans for next year and looking forward to it. Today is Winter Solstice, shortest day of the year, and the beginning of celebration.

Last weekend we had a major snow storm, first of the season. Luckily, it was on the weekend, so I was able to stay home and enjoy the scenery. I love snow and Winter. I really love to drive in the snow too. As long as I'm the only one on the road! ;)

A visitor came by and she has been around for a couple of weeks. She's a Wild Turkey hen and appears to really like the bird seed that I put out. I wondered where she roosted at night, the trees around here are younger and small. But she loves the White Pines and is able to fly high enough to be safe. Amazing how nature always finds a way.
This morning she flew down and her wingspan is about 5ft. Very big and happy bird...

Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday and a very Happy New Year!!

Chloe had no idea it was snowing.

 That's my igloo with wheels...
